Coming to Samford I wasn't looking to join a fraternity. But lots of friends and family encouraged me to go through. I transferred to samford as a sophomore and was at a disadvantage getting plugged in. During rush I started to see the quality guys that ATO had and how open they were about their faith. The Lord really pushed my heart towards ATO and so I decided to sign my bid. Since then I don't know what I would do without this group of guys.
Love and Respect,
When ATO first came to Samford and started recruiting guys to start a colony, I got an email about being a part of it. I was originally going to say no but thought it wouldn't hurt to talk with the guys from the national fraternity that were on campus, RJ and Jeff. I met up and talked to Jeff. By the time we finished talking, four guys that had already committed were sitting at the table next to us. I already knew three of them and respected those three, knowing they were great guys. That was when the wheels in my head started turning and I started rethinking my decision about joining and eventually decided to join. As it turns out, my dad was a founding father of the ATO colony and chapter at his school.
After joining, I got to know my brothers and was really proud of having so many great guys in the fraternity. Then, this past fall I took the semester off to work. What was supposed to be the second day of classes, I had the day off and was out with my dad when he suddenly fell ill, and was rushed to hospital where he died a few hours later. That week was really rough on me. The next morning, I had a few texts and calls from some friends passing along their condolences and one of them was a fraternity brother that I had not said a word to about my dad yet. That in and of itself was something that really touched me and helped me a lot. Later that day, I passed on the news to all my fraternity brothers and their response was incredible, I was just blown away with all the love and support I received from the guys. I was just amazed at how much they supported me, loved me, and were there for me even though I was out for the semester.
When I came back this spring, it was amazing to see all the guys and catch up with them as well as meet and get to know the new guys that had joined. Even this semester has proven the bond among us all to support each other and help each other when there is any kind of problem or situation. I am so glad to have joined ATO and be a part of a great brotherhood.
Love and Respect,
